The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

This film yet again broke my heart.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a 2008 drama film set in World War II, based on the novel of the same name by John Boyne. A Holocaust drama that explores the horror of a World War II Nazi extermination camp through the eyes of two 9-year-old boys; Bruno, the son of the camp’s Nazi commandant, and Shmuel a Jewish inmate.

I have a 3-year-old son and films like this or anything that include children in it is something that really touch my heart plus it is a Holocaust movie. No one does not cry over such movies.

It was like shrugging your shoulders with all the inequalities and injustice rubbing under your nose and someday getting the taste of it. I think Hitler’s death was an easy one and that it was way beyond fair for all the million lives he stole. I think he must be still burning in some place right now. I don’t know what that particular history taught anyone today that contributes to the whole world to make a better place.

The Shawshank Redemption

I came across this film when I was searching for highest rated films on IMDb to watch, well I highly trust the site’s judgement when in comes to movie review. Although I had a hard time downloading it I kept the faith, since a 9.3 rating is a must not miss command so after several attempts, Viola! download complete!

The Shawshank Redemption is a 1994 American drama film written and directed by Frank Darabont, based on the 1982 Stephen King novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption. It tells the story of banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), who is sentenced to life in Shawshank State Penitentiary for the murder of his wife and her lover, despite his claims of innocence. Over the following two decades, he befriends a fellow prisoner, contraband smuggler Ellis “Red” Redding (Morgan Freeman) and becomes instrumental in a money laundering operation led by the prison warden Samuel Norton (Bob Gunton).

The film was all about keeping a firm hold to Hope, that after so many years of being in the prison which you have considered your home, a brighter future awaits outside the brick walls and cold steel bars.

It was comforting to know that prisoners in the first world countries are still treated humanely after all the bad things they have committed in the community but prison cells in the third world countries are a different kind of story.

The Silence of The Lambs

If home and work does not occupy my entire day and if I have few hours of precious leisure time, I spend it with good book or a good movie. As I was browsing the web on what good movie to keep me preoccupied I came across this classic film and decided to give it a try since it has a high rating from different movie review sites.

The Silence of The Lambs was a 1991 American horror-thriller film directed by Jonathan Demme and starring Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins, and Scott Glenn. Adapted by Ted Tally from the 1988 novel of the same name by Thomas Harris. It is about Dr. Hannibal Lecter; a brilliant psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer and Clarice Starling, a young U.S. FBI trainee, who seeks the advice of the imprisoned Dr. Lecter to apprehend another serial killer, known only as “Buffalo Bill“.

I find it a very nice movie with all the plot twists and the fact that Clarice was solely saved by being startled and pulling on the trigger inadvertently killing Buffalo Bill is quite amusing.  Although I sometimes get distracted of Jodie Foster’s voice, no offense meant though, its just not suitable for her pretty face and Anthony Hopkins looks just like Jack Nicholson to me which is one of my favorite actor by the way. I was also captured by Ted Levine’s  portrayal as Jame “Buffalo Bill” Gumb which is a transsexual man. I am a huge fan of Freddie Mercury and he was the only thing that hit my mind when Buffalo Bill started dancing in the film. I wonder if dear Freddie was bold like that during his dating game days.

Another thing is, I always wanted to be a Psychiatric Nurse, the fact that you deal with patient who are mentally disabled and whose mental thinking/capabilities are way beyond fascinating seems a very nice field of profession to dedicate your whole life with but I guess God has better plans for me than being on a Cukoo’s nest.

Overall, I like the film and I’m happy that my precious short leisure time was not wasted away.
